There was a rejoicing in heaven as Thelma M. Solomon joined her heavenly Father on Aug. 10, 2012. She was born Jan 8, 1924 to Papa and Mama Simmons in Atoka, OK. Thelma spent her younger years farming, gardening, and playing ball and jacks. She met Amos and after four years of courting they were married on Feb. 7, 1944. She touched the lives of many while living in OK, New Mexico, Texas and ending her journey in OK. Thelma provided the best gift to her children and grandchildren by demonstrating how to be a proud Christian, strong believer in God, and an excellent caregiver. She volunteered with the March of Dimes, Vista, Community Action Program and Cystic Fibrosis. She was once asked what life lessons she would pass on to the younger generations; her response was to “believe in the Lord and take your children to church”. She is survived by her daughter, Donna and Jack Johnson of Edmond; sons, Keith and Peggy Solomon of Edmond and Lynn and Rhonda Solomon of Newalla; son-in-law, John Thomas of Del City; brothers, Rondle and Dee Simmons and Alvin and Connie Simmons of OKC; sister, Bonnie and Jerry Fleming of Sugarland, TX; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. Thelma is preceded in death by her husband, Amos Solomon; daughter, Nell Thomas; mother Mary “Mama” Simmons; father, John “Papa” Simmons; sister, Mae Rawson; brother, Lonnie Simmons; and grandson, Ronnie King. Services for Thelma will be 11:00 am, Wed. Aug. 15 at Baggerley Funeral Home with interment following at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
