Ray Carroll Turnage was born on May 8, 1931 in Lenoir County, NC to Roy Edward and Helen Onita (Abbott) Turnage and passed away on June 14, 2017. Ray was a graduate of Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, TN and went on the get his M.E. from Middle TN State University in Murfreesboro, TN. He worked as a Superintendent at Free Will Baptist Home for Children in Greeneville, TN and retired from Greene County Schools. On August 23, 1953, Ray married the love of his life, Lissie (Chaudoin) Turnage, and together they shared 63 years of love, life, family, and friends. Ray was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN, the Ruritan Club, an FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer and was presented the 1965 Free Will Baptist Layman of the Year award.
Ray is survived by his wife, Lissie; daughters, Vicki Toombs of Edmond, OK and Renee Brogan of Loganville, GA; grandchildren; Beau Toombs of Chicago, IL, Amy Brogan of Cincinnati, OH, and David Brogan of Kennesaw, GA; sister, Nellie Turnage of West Columbia, SC; and sons-in-law, Larry Toombs of Edmond, OK and Tim Brogan of Loganville, GA.
