Peggy Downey, 93. Beloved wife of Ray E. Downey (deceased), caring mother to Harriat Downey-Pitts, Doyle Downey (Donna), and Carolyn Cisper (Leon), and adoring grandmother of John, Hayley, Megan, and Drew.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Burl and Cora Easley; sisters: LaVon, Mable "Sally", and Emma "Toots"; brother, Louis "Son"; and son-in-law, Doyle Pitts.
Peggy Downey was born on April 16, 1928 in the little town of Dougherty, Oklahoma. Country living was in her soul and she cherished being out on the small hobby farm Ray and Peggy built with help from the Downey clan. Peggy loved animals and spent her life taking in strays and giving them a piece of her heart. While she always had cats, there were special horses, dogs, chickens and geese. On the front page of the Daily Oklahoman, she was called “Mother Goose” for adopting a gaggle of orphaned goslings. Even turtles learned to knock on the front door for food and a wild rabbit lived inside with us for a while. Many of God’s creatures were waiting to welcome Peggy to heaven.
