On Wednesday October 19, 2022 God opened his arms to receive his servant, Norma Jean Morris (Williams). Norma was born on February 6, 1958 to Johnnie Norman Morris and Laura Ann Doolin (Morris) of Arcadia, Oklahoma. Norma attended Arcadia Elementary of Arcadia, Oklahoma and Rogers Middle School of Spencer, Oklahoma. Attending high school at Star Spencer High School of Spencer, Oklahoma, she was a proud graduate of the class of 1976! (Go Bobcats!)
Leo Williams and Norma were married on September 5, 2008 and shared four children together: Tamera, Tavares, Michael, and Michelle.
Norma gave her life to Christ at an early age and became a devoted and outstanding mother; so much so, that her family gave her the nickname of “Mother Hen.” Norma took pride in being the best mother she could be. As time passed and all four of her children were attending school, she decided to go to school herself to pursue her Dietician License. She achieved and accomplished that goal. Norma started to spread her dietetic knowledge throughout different careers with Kid’ Ink, Camelot, Edmond Nursing Center, Grace Living Center and Godard Private School. After being with Godard Private School, Norma retired.
Norma enjoyed many interests. Her love for reading started in high school where she participated in the Star Spencer Book Club and continued throughout her life. Her huge love of music spanned all genres and time periods, especially the 70s. Garage sales brought about the collection of antiques and vinyl records over the years with the children enjoying those outings. (Think about what Saturdays were like for her kids when you see a garage sale sign!) Classic cars and anything that was a part of history were important; she even once owned a 71’ Mach1 Mustang.
Norma, a.k.a. Betty Crocker, had a love and passion for cooking. She inspired family closeness by having family traditions such as cooking, eating and celebrating together her favorite holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Norma knew and incorporated the true meaning of these holidays. Norma was a true inspiration, leader, giver, and true gift to everybody that she met.
Those who are left to cherish her memories are her four children: Tamera R. Williams, Tavares E. Williams and wife Jodie, Michael J. Williams and wife Liz, Michelle A. Robertson (Williams). Eight grandchildren: Michael Williams Jr. (Ju Ju), Terrin Robertson, Tristan Williams, Me’lah Williams, Tamar Hawthorne, Jazlynn Robertson, Fynlie Williams, Journee Robertson. Two great-grandchildren: Omen Williams and Jerzie Williams. Mother: Laura Ann Morris, five sisters: Leta and Rob Sr. Starr, Sharon and Reggie Jackson, Sheila and Kevin Garrison, Jackie Winters, Dena and David Plunkett. Many nephews and nieces along with a host of relatives and friends.
Norma is preceded in death by her father Johnnie N. Morris, sister Tammy R. Morris, brother Antonio Shepherd, nephew Joseph Winters, and her beloved husband Leo Murrile Williams.
A visitation for Norma will be held Friday, November 4, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 South Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034. Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 500 Odor St. Arcadia, OK 73007.
