Maurice was the 11th child of 13 children. At the age of 12 she joined the First Baptist Church in Anadarko. After moving to OKC, she joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church and later First Baptist Church in Luther where she remained until her death. She worked in many areas of the church.
Maurice attended school in Anadarko and graduated from Lincoln High School as valedictorian and a member of the honor roll. She attended Langston University where she was also on the honor roll. She is a former member of the Progressive Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Sunbeam Home Demonstration Club and other home extension groups. Her hobbies were reading, cooking and sewing. She received a food service certificate and worked for the University of Central Oklahoma.
Maurice was the president of the Luther Historical Society where she was instrumental in getting the Washington Park and Luther’s Elizabeth Threatt Library.
While attending Langston University, she met and married Taylor Lee, Sr. They remained happily married for 53 years, until he parted from this life in 2001. To this union three children were born: Travis, Vivian, and Taylor, Jr.
Maurice was preceded in death by her husband, Taylor Lee, Sr.; son, Travis; great-granddaughter, ChiLynn; parents, Patrick Henry and Izora Kiel Cheadle; 8 sisters: Winnie, Roxie, Almetta, Robbie Bell, HenryEtta, Ivory, Verniece, and Dorothy; 4 brothers: Luxie, OC, JC, and William; and nieces and nephews that grew up along with her: Virgil and Virginia Baucom, Andrews Jackson (AJ), Winnie Mae (Bobby), Robert and Charles Cheadle, and Letha Nuckols.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughter, Vivian Lee Roberts of Midwest City; son, Taylor, Jr. (special friend Beth) of Luther; 5 grandchildren: Camerron (Leatrice), Raina (Amine), Christina, Antonnia, and Taylor, III; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
