She went on a blind date with Gerald D. Smith from Cashion, Oklahoma, at 15 years old, and they were married at the ages of 16 and 21. He was in the United States Air Force, so Mary Jo spent the next 20 years of his career raising her family and moving from place to place and country to country at the whim of the military. A country that the entire family enjoyed living in was Spain.
Mary Jo is preceded in death by her husband Gerald, parents Clarence and Lillian Mozelle (Pitts) Wallace, and brothers Lloyd Wallace and Donald Wallace.
She is survived by her son Kenny Smith and wife Thelma; daughter Tammy Smith; sister Betty Simmons; grandchildren: Kimma Cruz, Eric Cruz, Mike Romero, Keysa Romero, Joseph Whiteagle, Jason Whiteagle, Jupier Whiteagle, Rachel Whiteagle, and Dava Whiteagle; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and many other nieces, nephew, family, and friends.
