This plaque was awesome.  I sent a picture to a friend and his reply “ you have a true military here living there”.  The two men in the back we the first two recipients of a scholarship in Orens name.

Oren & Jenny are our 2 residents who were 102.

At Brookdale we were proud to celebrate Oren.  As people were eating cake he was telling some stories about his time in the service.

One of my earliest Scouting mentors passed away last week.   I first began to work with Oren Lee in the early part of 1976.   He was almost always upbeat and wore a full face smile.   He was warm and welcoming.  He was extremely tickled to tell fold that he had to meet with the president.   I am sure that this happened a couple of times.   This was especially true when he was the Council Commissioner and Noris Whitaker was the Council President.

Years later I had the opportunity to assist him in getting his newsletters out while he was the Secretary for the National Association of Presbyterian Scouters.

He made sure that we took care of our equipment and could tie proper knots and lashings.  He encouraged scouts to be the very best that they could be.

I missed him twice in my life, he was living in Arkansas when I earned my Eagle and he had stopped coming to the Council Banquets the year that I was awarded the Silver Beaver.   His leadership and inspiration has served me these past 47 years.   He loved to sing and would start many a morning on a campout with “Oh eat a beautiful morning.”   He taught us the different parts and the meanings behind them on the Troop 78 scarf.  A well live life.   Thank you Mr. Peters.

Pete, you made such a difference in our world!  I hope St. Peter was properly dressed, metal on metal, boots spit-shined, when you arrived!

Seriously, Oren Lee Peters was an outstanding leader and one who is irreplaceable in our midst.  It was my privilege to work with him as his Scout Executive for 11 years.  He carried the banner of Presbyterian Scouting proudly and was always alert to situations which could be improved.

When Lucile's memory was diminishing, he would come in to visit me, always attentive to her needs.  He was a devoted caregiver.

My condolences to Pete's family and all who will miss him.

We were lucky enough to meet Mr. Peters and hear some of his remarkable stories of his time in the military.  We thank you for your service.  And we thank you for sharing your stories to your children and grandchildren and other people of the younger generation.  May you rest in peace.

Uncle Oren, Patsy and Don!  Always had a wonderful smile and story to tell.  He loved his little sister, and we all loved him.

My two favorite memories of Oren Lee: He went through Wood Badge (again!) in 2007 on course SR-846.  He was so lively and provided a great energy to the course and reminded us Scouters of the long heritage and legacy we were building on for the youth of our country and the world.  I also remember sessions in his home literally telling war stories and how his Scouting helped him, and then how he helped Scouting.  I always enjoyed learning from Oren Lee!

Mike, Polly, Shan, and Pat -
My memories of your Dad run deep and are shrouded in good thoughts of the many times he helped me with something special in Scouting. When we revitalized the program at Slippery Falls in the mid-80s, and every year thereafter, he was my guru on doing the right things in the right way for young people. Our family will miss him tremendously. Blessings on you and your extended family.

I will always cherish my memories of Oren Lee Peters.  Few days pass without my thinking of him and the wonderful example he set for all of us.  His wisdom and guidance were significant assets to me and the rest of the Scouts and Scouters of Troop 78.  He was definitely a leader of the nation's "Greatest Generation."  He will be dearly missed.  Mark H.

What a great man, public servant. I remember him well in his scout uniform. He always looked and acted dignified. He was a very loyal and committed person and a wonderful role model. Thank you for the lovely obituary.
