On June 27, 2020, with family by her side, Lois F. (Russell) Messenger went to her heavenly home and was reunited with her sweetheart of 63 years, Kenneth Messenger. Lois was born on March 6, 1930, in Seminole, OK and graduated from Billings High School in 1948.
Lois was always a strong willed and determined woman who credited most of her strength as coming from her mother, Nancy Elizabeth who, along with her husband William A. Russell, raised 7 beautiful children, Flora Odom, Henry Russell, Velva Hunter, William Russell, Thaine Russell, Wanda Blair (the last surviving sibling) and Lois Messenger.
It was in an Oklahoma skating rink where Lois met her beloved husband Ken. They were married at Tinker Air Force base on March 16, 1951. They have two beautiful daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Charlie Haun and Terry and Bart Bartholomew. Ken and Lois owned Builders Insulation for 38 years.
Lois enjoyed shopping, gardening, playing dominos train, watching her fish in her Koi pond and making hole in ones in golf. She traveled the world with Hawaii being her favorite place on Earth other than her home where she planned every detail of its construction and decoration. She was known for hosting all the family Holidays and Sunday School Class get-togethers.
Lois had a passion for genealogy. She and Ken spent countless hours traveling all over the United States visiting court houses and cemeteries to document their families’ history.
Lois loved visits and telephone calls from her grandchildren, Chele Haun, Ashley Craft, Sommer Skinner and Colton Bartholomew and art and pictures from her great-grandchildren Christian Paredez, Bray Moss, Addison Craft, Cody Craft, Lex Moss, Savannah Skinner, Caroline Craft, Zack Skinner, Abigail Bartholomew and Thomas Skinner.
Lois’ legacy will live on through her family and friends. They will all miss her love, support, and playful attitude.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mobile Meals at endinghungerokc.org.
Special thanks to the caring doctors and staff at Epworth Villa and the Mercy hospice staff.
