She is survived by husband Dean Potter, two daughters, Amber Seward h. Steve of Edmond, Penney Rodriguez h. Paul of Edmond, sister Breta Bloomberg of Lawrence, Kansas, grandsons Stephen Seward w. Julie of Yuma, AZ, Nathan Seward w. Rebekah of Edmond, and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Lyman Wayne and Margaret Eleanor Bloomberg n. Pollock.
She was born August 31, 1940 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, moved to Clay Center Kansas when she was young where she graduated from Clay Center Community High School in 1958. She attended Kansas State University, Manhattan as an Art Major, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority and met her husband while attending.
Karen was married to Dean Potter on May 20th 1961 in Clay Center, Kansas. They moved to Topeka, Kansas, then to Ponca City and finally making their home in Edmond, Oklahoma since 1990. She was a member of PEO, DAR, Clan Irwin Association, BSF and a member of Faith Bible Church. Along with being a wife and mother, her other interests included Biblical Archaeology, hockey, interior decorating and Bible Prophecy. Dean and Karen hosted a Bible Study in their home for over 40 years. Since being associated with The Daily Bread Ministries, she read through her entire Bible every year. After continuing her education at Oklahoma State University in Criminal Justice, she became a Kay County Deputy Sheriff for a time.
She had a special gift for Hospitality and a love for the Jewish people. God put in her path several groups of Jewish people during her life including the Liberated Wailing Wall music group whom she hosted in her home. Also, there was a group of Israeli military families living in Ponca City, whom she befriended and helped them adjust to their life in Oklahoma. She shared her faith with everyone she met. Her other gift was Encouragement. Anyone she met during the day who she felt needed recognized, she would hand out a Blue Ribbon of Excellence. She loved to see the happiness it brought from this simple act.
A visitation for Karen will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 South Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034.
A graveside service will occur Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Gracelawn Cemetery, 1407 N. Blvd., Edmond, OK 73034.
