Karen Sue McBrayer, 72, passed away at her home with her husband and both of her sons by her side on Saturday, October 7, 2023, in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was born May 25, 1951, in Hoisington, Kansas, to John and Norma (Gilliland) Miller. Karen grew up on a wheat farm in Albert, Kansas. She attended school from elementary school to high school at Pawnee Rock and attended college for two years at Fort Hayes State College. She moved to Edmond, Oklahoma in 1974. Karen would go on to meet and marry her husband, Andrew Norris McBrayer Jr. on June 7, 1975.
Karen was a devoted Christian and was a member of New Covenant in Edmond. She only held two jobs in her life, having worked at Fleming Companies for over 30 years, and for Legal Aid of Oklahoma for over 20 years. She was most proud of being a mom to two sons, Scott and Jeff, and a Nana to 6 beautiful grandchildren. Karen will best be remembered as a person who enjoyed baking delicious cookies, giving to others, and was a loving, patient, kind, and unselfish woman who lived for the Lord.
Survivors include her husband, Andrew Norris McBrayer Jr., two sons, Scott McBrayer and wife Jenny of Paris, France, and Jeff McBrayer and wife Sandra of Buhl, Idaho; five grandchildren, Jonas McBrayer, Jack McBrayer, Bear McBrayer, Annalise McBrayer, and Maverick McBrayer; one brother, Ronald Miller of Great Bend, Kansas, and one sister, Debra White and husband Mark of Cold Spring, New York; and two fur babies Max and Angel. She was preceded in death by both parents, John Miller and Norma Miller, one sister-in-law, Ann Miller, two brothers-in-law, Jerry Gleeson, and John Nixon, and one granddaughter, River Rose McBrayer.
A visitation for Karen will be held Friday, October 13, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM (Family will be present for the first hour) at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 South Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034. A funeral service will occur Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM at New Covenant Church, 2700 S. Blvd, Edmond, OK 73013 with Rev. Jay Smith officiating. Interment will follow to Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City.
