Gerald "Jerry" G. Berger

Gerald “Jerry” George Berger, born on November 15, 1943, in Chicago, IL, led a life rich in love, service, and dedication. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose presence illuminated the lives of all who knew him.

Graduating from Bogan High School in Chicago in 1962, he pursued his studies at the Illinois Technical Institute before answering the call to serve his country. In 1965, Jerry proudly joined the US Army, where he displayed unwavering commitment and rose to the rank of Specialist 5 before his honorable discharge in 1967.

In the midst of his service to his country, Jerry found another lifelong commitment: his marriage to Joanne Samoska on January 22, 1966. Together, they embarked on a remarkable journey spanning 58 years, filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another.

Jerry's professional journey led him into the field of engineering, where his expertise in design work for nuclear power plants left a lasting impact. Beyond his professional achievements, Jerry dedicated himself to nurturing the next generation as the devoted Troop Master of his sons' Boy Scout troop.

In November 1979, Jerry and Joanne planted new roots in Edmond, OK, where they continued to build their life together. Retirement at the age of 73 granted Jerry the gift of time, which he filled with meaningful pursuits. Whether serving as a docent at the Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, pursuing his passion for photography, or engaging in Cowboy Action shooting and collecting, Jerry approached each endeavor with enthusiasm and dedication.

On May 26, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family, Jerry peacefully passed away after a courageous battle with an adult form of leukemia. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and integrity that will continue to inspire.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Joanne, his sons Matt and his wife, Mei, and Gregg and his wife Brenda, his cherished granddaughters Alyssa and Rachel, grandsons Kent, Gregory, and Leah, as well as his great-grandchildren Sabrina, Braiden, Riley, and Kaylnn. He is preceded in death by his sister Doris and brother Don.

A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal, 3100 N. Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034, at 2 p.m. Details for his burial at Fort Sill National Cemetery, will be announced at a later date.
