January 31, 1932 - January 25, 2014
Frederick "Fred" Milton Thompson, born in Guthrie, OK, in 1932 to Silas Milton and Mary Elizabeth Thompson, passed away unexpectedly but as called by the Lord on January 25, 2014. He was just shy of 82 years old.
Fred attended Guthrie High School and then served our country in the Navy during the Korean conflict. Upon his honorable discharge, Fred returned to Oklahoma where he earned his degree from Central State College. While being a loving husband and father, he had a long career with the Morton Salt Company and later served at the Oklahoma State Corporation Commission as a pipeline safety inspector.
Fred, loved by many, enjoyed the simple things of life - his wife Gracie, his family, his dogs (particularly Zoe), his Model T cars and cronies, and coffee time with buddies. As a long time member of multiple car clubs, Fred and Grace proudly drove in countless parades and car tours throughout the country. His children and grandchildren, who fondly refer to him as "Grumpy Gramps", remember him for his strong opinions but more importantly his loving heart. He loved his family dearly, but most importantly he loved his Gracie.
Fred is preceded in death by parents Silas Milton and Mary Elizabeth Thompson, and brother John Thompson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Grace Laverne; brother Richard Thompson and wife Joyce of Virginia; sons David Thompson and wife Jane of Edmond, Toby Thompson and wife Jennifer, and Joe Thompson of Arcadia; Grandchildren Katie Moore and husband Matt, Jeff Thompson and wife Sarah, Robyn Thompson, Jarrett Thompson and DJ Thompson; Great Grandchildren Carter and Campbell Moore, Nolan Thompson, and Daniel Thompson.
A visitation time will be held on Tuesday, January 28, from 5-8 PM, at Baggerley Funeral Home in Edmond. Fred's life will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 29 at 11 AM, in Luther, OK, at the First Christian Church (415 E. 1st Street, Luther, OK 73054). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the First Christian Church of Luther, OK.
