He was born in Oklahoma City on December 15, 1950. David graduated from Crooked Oak High School, where he was a state champion in track. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University on a track scholarship and received his Bachelor’s Degree. OBU was special to David. He valued his education, experiences, and friends there. He later received a Master’s Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in Education Administration. David’s career in education included teacher, coach, and administrator in Maud, Crooked Oak, Ardmore, Mid-Del, and, most recently, Tahlequah schools. Throughout his career, he touched the lives of many students and colleagues.
He had a passion for his family, fishing, “vintage” tv shows, and carpentry, and he always wished he had played more golf. David was able to key in on the important things that mattered in life, especially his family and work.
He is preceded in death by his brother Doug Birchett; and his parents, Helen Griffith and Lawrence Dale Birchett.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda; daughters, Katy Smith and Mary Page; sons-in-law, Jeremy Smith and Dwayne Page; two “awesome” granddaughters, Presley Page and Genevieve Smith; brother Dale Birchett and wife Cheryl; and life-long friend Doug Morley.
A memorial service to celebrate David’s life will be held at 11:30 AM, Saturday, May 21, 2022, at the “Lake House” in Cookson, Oklahoma. All who knew and loved him are invited to attend and stay for lunch. If you need directions or have any questions, please contact Katy Smith at (331) 401-4140 or [email protected]
