Corlela Jane Scott

Janee was born January 29,1942 in Oklahoma City, OK to Clarence William Votaw and Georgia Loura (Brooks) Votaw.

A friend from school invited her to church, where, at the age of 13, she asked Jesus into her heart which began a lifetime of serving the Lord. She was a graduate of Northeast High School in OKC and attended University of Central Oklahoma, where she not only received her Bachelors in Elementary Education but also later pursued a masters in Education Administration, graduating Summa Cue Laude.

Janee married her high school sweetheart, Paul, on June 10th, 1963. Paul and Janee had known each other since kindergarten and were married for 61 years.

Also in 1963, she began her elementary teaching career that spanned over 30 years, teaching first in Oklahoma City schools at Heronville, Bodine, Kaiser, Hilldale, all elementary schools, then moved to Putnam City District to teach at James L. Dennis. She then served as assistant principal at Wiley Post before finishing her career as principal at Windsor Hills Elementary where she retired in 1998.

Janee had a love to help children thrive in school and developed several curriculums & programs to do just that.

She loved playing bridge with friends and games with her grandchildren. She also played the piano, tennis, and enjoyed painting china and landscapes. In the summers, she took pleasure in riding her bike around Lake Hefner, water skiing at Lake Murray, and off-roading in Colorado. Snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and snow skiing were some of her favorite winter activities.

Throughout her career, she received many awards, and was active in many clubs and organizations, which included, Sigma Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma Sororities at the University of Central Oklahoma, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and others. She was also a very active member of Northwest Baptist Church and Crossings Community Church until her and Paul moved to Hartsel, CO where they attended Valley Fellowship. They made their final move in 2021 to Erie, Colorado where they lived with her daughter & son-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Georgia Votaw, her sister and brother, Wanda Suggs and Bill Votaw.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Scott, daughter, Paula Fiorazo and husband Joe of Edmond, Oklahoma and Julee Gregory, husband Derek of Erie, Colorado, grandchildren Caleb Gregory, wife Bobbi Jo, Josh Gregory, wife Courtney, Kylee Currier, husband Collin, Zach Gregory, wife Presley, Hudson Gregory, Amanda Petrin, husband Chris and Aaron Fiorazo, many nieces and nephews and 10 great grandchildren.

We wish to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at Juniper Village in Louisville, Colorado, for the care, kindness and love shown over Janee’s time there. They loved both Janee and us as if we were family. Each and every member of the staff went above and beyond to serve us and and met every need as if we were the only individuals in their care.

A funeral service for Corlela will be held Monday, January 6, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 South Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034.
