Barbara Jane Thornbrue

On April 27, 2012, Barbara Jane (Mahaffey) Thornbrue of Guthrie, OK, went to be with her Heavenly Father. Services will be Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 10:00 am, at Waterloo Road Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Hayward Cemetery, Hayward, OK. Barbara was born in Arkansas City, KS to Frank and Matilda Mahaffey on August 12, 1934. Frank built refineries and therefore Barbara lived in many places: Seagraves, TX, Arkansas City, KS, Magnolia, AR, and Shawnee, OK. In 1944, the Mahaffeys, which consisted of Barbara and her brothers Gene and Bruce, moved to Edmond, OK. Barbara graduated from Edmond Public Schools in 1952 and married Elmo Thornbrue – a match made in heaven. She is survived by 3 sons and a daughter: Tony & Nancy Thornbrue of Sheridan, AR; Keith & Pattsi Thornbrue of Guthrie; Pam & Mitch Bell of Portland, TX; Brian & Lori Thornbrue of Guthrie; 31 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and many family and friends. One of Barbara’s most memorable childhood memories was her time in Magnolia, Arkansas. Her mother got sick and her dad hired a “mammy” to help take care of them. She loved sitting on the porch with Ella, listening to music and her dad preaching. Barbara loved her kids and was so proud of all of them. And, of course, no one had better grandchildren and great-grandchildren! Barbara will be missed, but she is now with the love of her life, Elmo and they truly do have a match made in heaven.
