

Avanelle Barton, 90, longtime resident of Edmond, Ok, passed away March 3, 2012. She was born may 25, 1921 in Hammon, Oklahoma to Augustus and Allie (Scott) Eakins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Raymond L. Barton; two sisters, Miriam Walker, Gayle Goforth ; one brother, Doyle Eakins and grandson, Thomas Barton. She is survived by two sons, Terry Barton and wife Susan, Tommy Barton and wife Diane; daughter, Marilyn Davidson and husband Dennis. She was loved and cherished as “Mama A” to her grandchildren, Terri Lynn, Angela, John, Jacob, Adam, John T., Philip, Jon and Cheryl; great-grandchildren, Paige, Jack, Gibson, Ryan, Cole, Evan, John Thomas. Throughout her life she remained active and was a member of numerous organizations including, Mother’s Club of Edmond and Beta Sigma Phi. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Edmond, she was also a pink lady volunteer at Edmond Hospital for many years and worked at the Central State Library for ten years. Avanelle prided herself in making her house a home for her family. She had a love of antiques, home decorating and Glenn Miller music and keeping up with current events. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Known and will be remembered as devoted, beautiful, intelligent and for her wonderful sense of humor. Her legacy is her example for unconditional love.Services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Baggerley Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond.
