Rose M. Halstead, 68, of Stroudsburg, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 6, after injuries resulting from a tragic car accident. She passed away one day shy of the 46th anniversary she shared with the love of her life, Mr. Lewis L. Halstead.
Born in East Stroudsburg on March 21, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Virginia (Smith) Stitzer and the late Edward Bensley.
Rose attended Bangor Area High School, class of 1969, where she was a majorette.
Rose, better known as “Rosie” or “Nan,” was a happy, positive, ray of sunshine who always wore a smile on her face. Helping others brought her the most joy; she volunteered with many different organizations and helped anyone in need; weather it was the shirt off her back, clothes and toys for your kids, or a fridge full of food.
You could always find her in the passenger seat, with Louie, as he was driving around “Ms. Daisy.” Her day started with a ride to Dunkin for coffee, a stop of the Gulf to drop off candy, and ended with a trip to the casino. She was a jokester and so much fun to be around; her laughter was contagious.
She was an advocate for animals. She took in any animal in need and adopted a house full; five dogs and two cats.
Rose was a woman of great faith who shared advice and words of encouragement to friends and strangers alike. Free spirited and nonjudgmental for sure, she made friends anywhere she went.
Rose was a firm believer in Jesus Christ who lead her whole family to his love. Any obstacle that arouse, she would say “pray on it, he has the answers,” with her finger pointing to the sky.
She was an amazing, strong, compassionate mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be so deeply missed.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia and Edward; and a grandson-in-law, Jack M. Sipple Sr.
In addition to her husband, Lewis L. Halstead, she is survived by a brother, Charles Stitzer of Gilbert; four children: Edward Sobrinski III of Stroudsburg; Aaron S. Sobrinski of Easton; Lewann Stewart and her husband, Wayne, of Sciota; and Lewis L. Halstead Jr. of Stroudsburg. Also, nine grandchildren: Stephen P. Waldron III, Angeliegha Stewart, Aaron J. Sobrinski, Tami Sipple, Alanzo Sobrinski, Jorden Stewart, Alanah Sobrinski, Nataley Stewart, and Alissah Sobrinski; nine great-grandchildren: Jada, Lauren, Parker, Ashton, Noah, Cole, Jack, Freya & Ariyah. Also, many nieces and nephews.
A public viewing will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, April 12 at The Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church, 915 N. Fifth St., Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Funeral Services led by Pastor Lynda Keefer and Pastor Dana Antal will begin at 5 p.m. Cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AWSOM, 3129 Godfrey Ridge Drive, PO Box 13, Stroudsburg, PA 18360; 570-424-1060.
