Born May 25, 1919, he was the son of the late Charles U. LaBar and Elizabeth (Trieble) LaBar, of Craigs Meadow.
He owned and operated Meadows Cabins for 12 years at the family homestead. He was employed at Hughes Printing for 42 years, retiring in 1981. He also drove school bus for East Stroudsburg School District and St. Paul’s School. A lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Craigs Meadow, he served as Sexton for 85 years, Financial Secretary, Chairman of the Building Committee, and Church Council.
He was a US Army Veteran, serving from 1944 to 1947 in the 462nd as an Amphibian Driver during the Normandy Invasion in World War II.
He was a lifetime resident of Monroe County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers David, Russell, Mitchell, W. Thorton, sisters Elaine, Mildred and Reva, and his long-time companion Regina Luzinski. He is survived by his nephew Paul Wildrick of Marshalls Creek, niece Ann (LaBar) Weidman of Jamestown, NY, niece Doris (Lesoine) LaBar of East Stroudsburg, great-niece Donna (LaBar) Long and husband Scott of Moscow, PA; great-niece Michelle (Mosteller) Fish and husband Andrew and their son Ethan of Cedaredge, CO, and many other great and great-great nieces and nephews.
A viewing is scheduled on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, 7:00pm to 8:30pm, at Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, in East Stroudsburg. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 11:00am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Craigs Meadow, East Stroudsburg with Rev. John Harding officiating. There will also be a viewing at the Church at 10:00am. Interment will be at Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 139 Craigs Meadow Rd, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.
