Dr. Jerrold E. Fritz, 83, of East Stroudsburg, PA passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Grace Park Senior Living. He was the loving husband of Mrs. Forrest Mae Fritz with whom he would have shared 62 years with on Saturday, August 20.
Born April 17, 1933 in Easton, PA, he was the son of the late Allen and Mildred Fritz.
Jerry was a graduate of Stroudsburg High School and earned his BS in Education from ESSC, M. Ed at Lehigh University in 1965. He then completed his doctorate degree in education from Lehigh University in 1970.
He was a veteran of The US Army where he was an instructor at The US Army School of Cryptography. Jerry then served 50 years at East Stroudsburg Area School District as a math teacher, guidance counselor, director of guidance services, assistant to the Supt., department chairperson(k-12), assistant football coach, assistant basketball coach, student council advisor, national honor society advisor, and volunteered for many other academic initiatives.
Jerry was a PIAA Baseball official and member of the United Way. He was also, president, VP, treasurer of the Kiwanis Club, as well as district chair for the PA district Kiwanis International. He was an IDEA Fellow in 1965 and winner of the Nathan G. Schafer Scholarship award in 1966, Kappan of the year in 1978-79, and Phi Delta Kappa George H. Reavis award winner in 1994-95. Jerry also received the Kiwanis distinguished president award in 1979-80. He was inducted into the East Stroudsburg Area School District Meritorious Hall of Fame.
He was also CEO and President/CEO, Charter member and co-founder of the NEPA Community Federal Credit Union, 1960-2006. Jerry was a great man and will be sincerely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Jerry had been preceded in death by his brothers: Wally and Luther Fritz, and his daughter: Teri Anne Ace.
Those left to cherish his memory include his dear wife: Forrest; his children: Frederic Fritz, of Royersford, PA and Jeri Anne Jumper, of Blakeslee, PA; his grandchildren: Kaitlin Fritz, Timothy Fritz and his wife Lindsay Burgess, Jason Jumper, and Cheyenne Fahr, and her father Bob Fahr; his great-granddaughter: Charlotte Fritz; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 10-11 am at The East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, 87 S. Courtland Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. The funeral services will start at 11 am with Rev. Candy LaBar officiating. Burial will follow at Prospect Cemetery,501 Prospect Street, East Stroudsburg PA 18301.
