Frank was born on November 16, 1934 in Ricadi Italy to the late Francesco and Rosa (Schiariti) Ortelio. He moved to the United States after meeting his wife, Rosalie Miceli. The two married in 1959 and later adopted two children, Fred and Karen. Frank was a loving husband and father who always put family first. He worked in supermarkets since arriving in the United States. In 1997 he retired from ShopRite in Clark, NJ after working there for more than 30 years.
In addition to family, Frank loved art, music and nature. Frank graduated from Newark Art School in the 60s. Several of his works hung in his home and were gifted to close family. He played the accordion for many years and tended to his large garden at their home in Edison, NJ. Frank was a kind and gentle man who would not even take the life of a bug in his home. He would insist that any bugs that found their way into his home were brought back outside to go on their way. His love for all creatures was also evident in the way he cared for their beloved cat, Tyler, and dog, Pepper.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie; his son, Fred; his brother-in-laws, Frank and Joseph Miceli; sister-in-laws, Lillie Miceli and Elisa Ortelio; and his niece, Maria Ortelio.
Left to cherish in his memory, Frank is survived by his daughter, Karen and her husband David Ernst, and their children, Daniel, Madelyn and Ryan, all of Bushkill PA. He is also survived by his sister, Tina and her husband, Michele; and his brothers, Antonio Ortelio and his wife Maria, Domenico Ortelio and Vincent Ortelio and his wife Aida; nephews and nieces, Rosemary and Patrick Lewczak, Lidia and Manny Lago, Donna and Joseph Agostino, Fred and Mary Miceli, Anthony Miceli, Steven Miceli, Sandra and Robert Stark; his nephew and niece in Italy, Francesco and Rosella; and his nephews in Argentina, Raimundo, Francesco and Alberto and their families.
The family gives special thanks to Hung Le who cared for Frank during the last nine months of his life. Hung brought peace and comfort to Frank and shared many laughs with “Papa”. We know Papa was grateful to have such a kind person care for him in his last months.
