Anne was born October 20, 1924 in Wheatland, PA. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Magdelena (Daub) Bastecky.
Anne was the third daughter and fourth child of five close-knit siblings. Anne learned to sew from her sister and taught herself to compete in sports. She loved every sport; basketball in high school, then swimming, tennis, skiing, and kayaking. She graduated from Farrell High School in 1942 and started work as a typist until she decided to move to New York City with two girlfriends to start a modeling career. She first worked on William Street for Executive Typist and then on to other jobs at Republic Aviation. She met Thomas in New York City, married and moved to Massapequa until finally settling in East Stroudsburg in the 1970’s.
Anne loved the Poconos and the Delaware River. She started the Women's Tennis League in 1973 and made many wonderful friends through her love of tennis and swimming; she enjoyed her daily summer swim under the beautiful Pocono sky. She participated in the 1976 Senior Olympics in Harrisburg, PA. She worked at the Monroe County Courthouse and the Monroe County Public Library. Anne was a member of the Pocono Irish Club and the Pocono Ski Club where she considered all the club members, warm and caring friends. Anne was a proud ski instructor at Camelback Mountain. Anne and Thomas travelled the world, visiting every U.S. state capital and recording their travels with pictures. Anne loved almost any game and activity.
Anne lived her life by her favorite motto: Health is wealth, less is more, and the name of the game is to have fun. She was definitely ahead of her time. She was frugal, thoughtful, and tried to help the less fortunate any time the opportunity arose. She will be remembered as loving, energetic and compassionate.
In addition to her beloved husband, Thomas and her parents, Paul and Magdelena; Anne had been preceded in death by her adored son, Gerard, who passed in 2010, her sisters: Lee Englehardt, Marie Grexa, and Katherine Lucas; and a brother: Paul Bastecky.
Those left to cherish her memory include Mary Kay Avedesian and her husband Craig, of State College; her grandchildren: Kristen, of Los Angeles, CA; Matthew, of Brooklyn, NY; James of NYC; and Daniel, of Washington, DC; and her beloved dog, Taco.
Anne loved her friends and we are forever grateful to Mary DeQuevado and Bob Tagliabue, Alice Fessick, and Karen & Jerry Griffin. She cared for so many others and appreciated everything they did for her, including Terry and Ralph Vecchio, Ginny Kirkwood, Debbie Driebe, and Judith Kieth.
From Anne, we learned to live each day to the fullest and keeping active will benefit our lives the most. She enjoyed Mass at St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church for the past 43 years. Remember her every time you hit a forehand shot or ski downhill, she will be there with you forever.
