She was the daughter of the late Wynne and Frances Wilson Hoopes and was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery D. Payne. She was a member of New England Baptist Church, Lion’s Club, Christian Womens Club and a Sunday School teacher of adult and children, and loved to teach children. She was also a member of the Gideon Auxiliary where she served as officer in different capacities in both the local camp and state office.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, J D Payne, Jr., daughter, Sonya Payne Trotman, Kitty Hawk, N.C., three grandchildren, Matthew K. Davis (Ashley), Heath Payne Davis, Jeffery M. Payne, great granddaughter, Eva Rose Davis, two brothers, John Hoopes, Charles Albert Hoopes (Diana) and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather for a graveside service 2:30 p.m., Friday, February 20, 2015, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 19, 2015, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
