William W. “Bill” Manning, Sr. age 90, of East Ridge died Monday, July 23, 2012 at his home. He was born February 21, 1922 in Chattanooga to the late Robert P. and Mona Manning. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Annette Manning; brothers Robert Manning and Jack Manning; sisters Peggy Vincent and Frances Doub.
Mr. Manning was a longtime member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He was a US Navy Veteran serving in World War II.
He was a legendary paper carrier for the Chattanooga Times Free Press retiring after 50 years and over 4 million papers delivered. He also retired from Combustion Engineering after 35 years of service.
Survivors include his children Anne (Rob) Cosgrove, William W. “Bill” Manning, Jr., Rosemary (Daryl) Moffitt, Margaret Manning and Melanie (Dave) Burgmeier; grandchildren Robert Cosgrove, Caroline Cosgrove, John Burgmeier, Katy Burgmeier, and Kevin Burgmeier; sister Mona A. Manning of Oak Ridge and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday July 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Jim Vick and Father Mike Creson officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home from 4-7 Thursday evening with a prayer service following at 7:00 pm.
