William Louis “Ed” Edwards, 83, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 16 at his home. Born in Cloverport, TN where he was known as “W.L.,” Ed was called to serve in the US Army in World War II. After the war he attended UT Martin Junior College and later enrolled at UT Knoxville. While attending UTK, he was again called to serve two years in Korea with the Tennessee National Guard 278th Inf. On returning, he completed his degree in Knoxville, and Ed married his sweetheart and wife of now 57 years, Eva Lawson Edwards. In 1953, Ed began work at Provident Life and Accident in Chattanooga, where he enjoyed working for over thirty years. While at Provident, Ed earned his law degree from McKenzie Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1958. After completing his LL.M. at John Marshall Law School in Chicago, he launched a much-loved second career at age 64 as an attorney concentrating in estate planning.Ed served on the boards of the Alzheimer’s Association and Sister Cities of Chattanooga. He was also a member of the Sigma Delta Kappa law fraternity, the Chattanooga Bar Association, and VFW Post #15044.Ed is often remembered for his kind, generous, and fair-minded character. He was preceded by his father Wiley Enloe “Ed” Edwards, mother Maudie Sanderson Edwards, and sister Laura Pauline “Polly” Edwards. He is survived by his wife Eva, of Chattanooga, TN; son Frank, of Chattanooga, TN; daughter Ellen Paige (Steve) of Portland, TN; daughter Carol McCullough (Ian) of Nashville, TN and five grandchildren: Patrick Paige of Charlotte, NC, Audrey Paige and John Paige of Portland, TN, and Max McCullough and Reed McCullough of Nashville, TN.Family visitation will be held in Chattanooga at Hickory Valley Community Church, 2201 Hickory Valley Rd. from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 18. An interment service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Avenue at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 19. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of Chattanooga/ 4411 Oakwood Drive/ Chattanooga, TN 37416.
