Tom was born in Aurora, Indiana, on June 26, 1930, to James Patrick and Leonora Klueber Gribben. He graduated from Notre Dame High School and was an All-City football and basketball player in 1947 and 1948. He received a full scholarship to Baylor University in Texas.
He loved his country. He was in the Army Reserve for many years. He loved his church. He was a lifelong Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and was a member of the Knights of Columbus all his adult life. He loved his family. He was a caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and he was happiest when all family members were together. It’s hard to sum up a life in these few words, but those who knew him will remember what a wonderful person he was. He was loved by everyone who came in contact with him.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers William J. (Bill) and John Joseph (Joe), and lifelong friend Walter D. “Skip” Moore.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Judith; children Eric Gribben (Phoebe) and Katie Gribben Warwick; grandchildren Breland and Maggie Gribben; Drew Hulse; Ned and Elizabeth Warwick; and great granddaughter Eloise. He is also survived by 16 nieces and nephews and 21 great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hunter Jennings and Roxy Gazaway, RN, for their devoted care, and Avalon Hospice for their kindness and help.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church with a mass offered by Father Jim Vick. Visitation will be in the Holy Family Hall one hour before the service.
Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist. 404 South Moore Road.
