Thomas “Burton” Gaston, Sr., 91, of Rossville, GA passed away Monday, December 26, 2022. He had been a member of Calvary Assembly of God in East Ridge, TN and attended New Liberty Baptist in Ringgold, GA. He was a graduate of Chattanooga Central High School (1949). Burton Gaston was stationed in Seoul, South Korea in the 8th Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He was a typesetter for The Chattanooga Free Press and was the owner of the National Printing Company for 45 years. He pitched fast-pitch softball for the Marine Reserve and several other teams in the Chattanooga area. He was an active bowler in the Mountain City Bowling League until the age of 91.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Elsie Shields Gaston. Also, by his parents Thomas and Bertha Gaston; his brother, Robert Gaston; and his sister, Jean Brown.
He is survived by his four children: Thomas Burton Gaston, Jr. (Terrie), Rosemary Gaston Sloan (Curtis), John Shields Gaston (Julia) and Andy Gaston (Becky); 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; siblings, Pete Gaston (Sandy) and Fred Gaston (Joyce) along with several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 from 4 to 8pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Chapel, 404 South Moore Road. Funeral Services on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 12pm with Brother Kenneth Bales officiating at the Chattanooga Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
