It is with our sincere condolences we send this note to you.  Barb and I reflected on your dad's obituary and his apparent gracious and affable style.  In this difficult time, we hope memories of his love of family will raise a smile among all for a life well lived.
 We share common values of loving the Creator, His outdoors and creation that was clearly embraced in his life.
So, my friend and colleague, we want you to know you have been and continue to be in our prayers.

I worked with Burton at Warner Park in the late 40's and early 50's.  So did my brother, Darwin Lane, now deceased.  We were all like brothers!!  Burton was a great guy and a good worker.  My deepest sympathy for his family members!  We can all be together in Heaven when our life here on earth has ended.  May Burton's Soul Rest in Peace until we meet again!

Uncle Burton was one of the sweetest men and humble man you could ever meet. I remember growing up as a kid he was always pleasant at our family gatherings to be around. He was a Godly man for his mother, my grandmother, raised her children in church and to live for Christ which he did. I know he's rejoicing right now in a perfect pain free body with his late wife and loved ones that's gone on before him. They'll all be waiting for us at the Lord's return as we're ushered in by the Angels to join them at that great table in Heaven to feast with the King of Kings and live for an eternity. We love and miss you Uncle Burton. God Bless.

If you knew my Papa you knew his linotype. Watching him in action was an art form. He could make basically anything in his shop and welcomed anyone in to show you printing from the past. I don’t know how many “complaint pads” I came home with or how many notepads I have with my name on them handmade for me but I will forever cherish these as they pop up around the house and office. Thanks for taking the time for your grandkids. We are better for your time, Papa. Love you. 

To all Burt's family,
    Praying for your family's strength and sending love. I feel so blessed to have spent time with Burt these last 7 years and work in his print shop. What a wonderful man and I will miss his company!


I met Burt in 2021 when my partner Inja Yang and I visited her niece, Burt's granddaughter-in-law on a cross country road trip in Alabama and we got to spend some time at his workshop, just over the border in Tennessee . He was so glad to see Inja again, as she is Korean and he had served in Korea. They had met at Phil and Katie's wedding a few years back, and he had sent many photo memories of his time in the service to her SF residence and they had stayed in contact. I got a complete tour of his offset shop, where the hot type was made on site. He even took the time to set some hot type and print a card commemorating our visit, and gave me a biography of Mergenthaler, inventor of the Linotype machine! ... and then we had a splendid lunch with other relatives. I'm not the best at uploading pictures, but I have sent some to Burt's daughter Rosemary that she may be sharing in the days and weeks to come.  Suffice it to say that Burt was a caring, giving and very cool union printer cat. I'm so glad I met him!
