Robert Jerry Hawk, age 81, passed away peacefully on July 11th, 2019. He was born in Chattanooga on November 22nd, 1937. He attended Soddy Daisy High School and graduated with the class of 1957. After High School, he joined the Air Force, where he served for 6 years. After serving in the Air Force, he attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he met and married his wife of almost 50 years. He graduated UTC in 1972 and went on to work in the medical field for many years, including a long employment at Downtown General Hospital, as well as Allied Laboratories and Blood Assurance later in his career. He remained involved in Military service for many years as a reservist for the U.S. Army 377th Combat Support Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. He retired from the Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1997. He and his family were longtime members of the Brainerd Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer, loving husband, father, son, brother, and devoted friend to many. He was generous, kind, patient, and dutiful.
He was preceded in death by his parents Geneva Johnson Hawk and Peyton Robinson Hawk, twin brother Curry Hawk, mother-in-law Florence Price Lawrence, father-in-law Mize Lawrence, and his wife Janice Lawrence Hawk, all of Chattanooga, TN.
He is survived by his children, Jenny Hawk McDermott (Matt) of Pensacola, FL. and Julie Hawk Raglin (Chris) of Canton, GA., sisters Maxine Benton (Jerome) of Hixson, Linda Conley of Chattanooga, Delores Patterson (Claude) of Hixson, Gail Brotherton (Tom) of Ooltewah, and grandchildren Taylor Aslinger, Benjamin Raglin, Colby McDermott, Emily Raglin, and Jacob McDermott.
The family will receive friends from 4-7PM on Monday July 15th at the Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel and funeral services will begin at 10AM on Tuesday, July 16th at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
