Bob was a graduate of The University of Chattanooga with a degree in geology, He worked for several years in oil industry in Louisiana before moving to Chattanooga.
He was a veteran of World War II and Korea, retiring as a Bird Colonel after 39 years of service in the U.S. Army, National Guard and Reserves.
He had a full and accomplished career in the mortgage business, opening several offices in Jackson, Memphis and Chattanooga.
Bob founded American Home Mortgage Company in 1981, and was owner and CEO at the time of his death. He served as the President of the Tennessee Mortgage Bankers Association, as well as the Chattanooga Association President. He was proud to serve for many years on the board for both groups and was honored to be voted TN Mortgage Banker of the Year and Chattanooga Mortgage Banker of the Year.
Bob was an active, forward thinking member of the MBA, VFW, American Legion Post 95, BPOE, Retired Officers Association, military order of world wars, Masons, Scottish rite and Shriners. He was a board member of the Chattanooga Community Kitchen and served as their treasurer. He was a member of St. Martins Episcopal Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Annie Gay Kelly Allison, his brother Bill, his son Scott Allison and his wife Mary Frances {Bradford) Allison.
He is survived by his children, Bobby {Sandy), Bryan (Jennie), and Fran. He has 9 grandchildren and a slew of great grandchildren as well as his loving companion, Jean Miller and her family. Bob will be missed by them all.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Chattanooga, Chattanooga Community Kitchen, St. Martins Episcopal or the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be from 4 – 6 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel on Thursday June 1st with a Celebration of Robert’s Life to follow at 6 p.m.
Interment will be on Friday June 2nd at 10:30 a.m. in Chattanooga National cemetery with full military honors.
