Ray Hickerson

Ray Hickerson passed away from cancer on January 25, 2023 with his wife Betty by his side. Ray is remembered by his family for his devotion as a husband and father, his strength of character and sense of humor.

Ray was born June 10, 1943 in Linden, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Nannie Hickerson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Hickerson, son Danny (Tracy) Hickerson; daughter Donna (Bill) McCarty; granddaughters Amanda (Joey) Morris and Chelsea Hickerson; great-granddaughter Josie Morris; sister Dorothy Groom of Linden, TN; brothers J.B. (Phyllis) Hickerson of Wichata, Kansas, Dan Hickerson of Wichita, Kansas and W.H. (Diane) Hickerson of Collierville, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews.

Ray was a Realtor in the Chattanooga area for over 30 years. He retired from Berkshire Hathaway Realty Center. He was also retired from Roadway.

Ray was of the Baptist Faith and attended Ridgedale Baptist Church.

Ray was an avid basketball fan. He played for Perry County High School and Martin Methodist College. He also played in the Chattanooga District Senior Games. He loved the Tennessee Vols and was a season ticket holder for the men’s basketball team.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Chattanooga for their wonderful care and support during this difficult time.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Friday and from 10-11 AM Saturday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, TN. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Royce Powell officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
