Matthew Thompson Rice, 38, of Burnsville, NC passed away Friday, June 7, 2024 at his home. He was a graduate of Mountain Heritage High School in Burnsville and was of the Catholic Faith. Matthew loved landscaping and made his living doing that.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Rev. Robert Southerland.
Survivors include his children, Caydence Rice and Harmony Rice and their mother, Kristy Baber; mother, Elizabeth Southerland Rice; father, Stephen Rice; brothers, Mark Southerland and Stephen Rice; maternal grandmother, Jane Southerland; paternal grandmother, Carole Traverse; step-grandmother, Rev. Pat Southerland; aunt and uncle, Elaine and Jonathan Ogden; several cousins, nieces and nephews; Longtime family friends, Lee and Brenda Peterson and family.
A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Brainerd United Methodist Church Cemetery with Dr. David Harr officiating.
