Mary Katherine was born in Alabama and moved to Chattanooga as a child. She attended Central High School and graduated from the University of Chattanooga.
Mary Katherine had a long career working in various administrative departments of TVA where she continued until retirement.
She was very active in her community of Signal Mountain, playing bridge and doing genealogy research which led to the publication of a book on the Gill and Ault families. Mary Katherine was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, National Society of Colonial Dames, and the National Society of Magna Carta Dames. She was a member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stuart W. Gill, a WW II veteran and a leader in the community; daughter-in-law, Linda Harvey Gill; and her brother, Hugh Ault, Sr.
Mary Katherine is survived by her only son, Bill Gill, of Kingsport, TN; granddaughter, Lori Schoenwiesner, and her husband, Scott and their children, Ben and Will; grandson, Rick Gill, and his wife, Kellie and their children, Samantha and Magdalena; brother, Chester Ault and longtime friend, Suzy Deierhoi.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Family and friends will gather on Monday, August 13, at 11 am for a graveside service at Chattanooga National Cemetery with The Reverend Derrick Hill, Rector at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church officiating.
Memorials may be given to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 630 Mississippi Ave., Signal Mountain, TN 37377.
