Margaret Fundinger Martin

She was born in Macon, GA and moved to Chattanooga at the age of 6. Her parents were Walter A. Sr. and Lottie Barber Fundinger.

She graduated from Central High School and attended Chattanooga State. She also received a degree from the Chicago Institute of Interior Design.

She has been an active member of Grace Episcopal Church since 1952, serving in many capacities. She was the Chairman of the Music Committee, the first female Chalice Bearer, served as Lector and a member of the Vestry. She wrote "Salty Christians", the history of Grace Episcopal Church and was named "Church Historian" in 1995. She was an early organizer of St. Nicholas School where she served as music director. She was a church organist for several years at local churches.

In 1966, Lee and Margaret opened Lee Paint Center, Inc.

Margaret was a very talented interior designer, writer and musician. In addition to being an accomplished organist, she played the piano and the accordion.

She is predeceased by her husband, Lee Battle Martin, Sr. and son, Lance Barber Martin.

She is survived by her children, Janie Martin (Tony) Duke, Lee Battle "Kit"(Cathy) Martin, Jr. and Lyn Martin (David Helton). Her grandchildren are Chris (Allie) Duke, Kerry (Katy) Duke, and Alex (Sarah) Duke. Great-grandchildren are MacKenna Duke, Lance Duke, Cade Duke, Jack Duke, Emily Duke, Caroline Duke, Kellan Duke and Hallie Duke.

A Celebration of Margaret’s Life will be held at the Grace Episcopal Church on Friday February 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior beginning at 10:00 a.m. She will be reunited with her husband, Lee in the Forest Hills Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the compassionate caregivers at Elmcroft Assisted Living on Gunbarrel Road and Kindred Hospice for the kindness and excellent care they provided our mother.

Memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice in Cleveland, TN or the Food Pantry at Grace Episcopal Church.
