John Henry Bohannon, Jr., 92, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 16, 2017. He was a graduate of Central High School and worked with the Coca Cola Bottling Company for many years delivering Cokes all over Chattanooga. It seems like he knew everybody in town and everybody knew him! He never met a stranger and was a friend to all.
John began his Christian service at East Chattanooga Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. When this congregation disbanded, he and Emma joined Oakwood Baptist Church where he served again as a Teacher and Deacon. When he was no longer able to attend, he continued to serve Jesus every day of his life – always showing the love of Jesus in his words and actions. He loved Jesus first and foremost and lived every day of his life for his Savior.
He was “Papa John” and “Paw Paw” to his grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Willie Edith Gray Bohannon; first wife, Bertie Johnson Bohannon; second wife, Emma Kathryn Bull Bohannon and his daughter, Barbara Ann Bohannon.
Survivors include his brother, Bill Bohannon of Chattanooga; daughters, Janet (Paul) Hazlerig of Ringgold, GA, Becky (Bill) Fugatt of Chattanooga and Marybeth (Ed) Hollomon of Lenoir City, TN; son, Steve (Patricia) Gulledge of Montgomery, AL; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Eva Smith for her loving care and concern.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 AM Monday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road with the Rev. Ken Clark officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-6 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416 or to Oakwood Baptist Church, 4501 Bonny Oaks Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416.
