Jayne S Plemons

Jayne was born on March 26, 1929 to the late Harry Carr and Mary Ann Scott in Rochester, New York. She grew up in Syracuse where she graduated from high school before attending business school. At age 19, she moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee when her father transferred to work with the US Forestry Service.

For 38 years, Jayne worked on Lookout Mountain as a cashier. She first worked at Massey’s Food Market (now Massey’s Kitchen), and then Fairyland Market. She always served her customers with a smile on her face and a kind word. She went above and beyond by delivering groceries to the sick and bereaved, opening the store in inclement weather, and offering advice to any who asked. While she loved to travel, she adored Lookout Mountain and the city of Chattanooga. She was a faithful member of St. Elmo Church of Christ, where she attended for over 70 years. Her late husband, Bob Plemons, was a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and elder at the church. Jayne had an affinity for the New York Yankees and Alabama Crimson Tide football.

Jayne was predeceased by her brother, Jay Singer Scott; sister, Kay Scott Marshall; stepsister Bette Scott Harris; her husband of 34 years, Dr. Peter Robert Plemons; and son, Richard Scott Massey. She is survived by son Henry “Lynn” Massey III (LaBreeska), daughter-in-law Lieneke Massey, stepdaughter Dr. Judy Plemons, grandson Adam Massey, granddaughter Courtney Sharp (James), grandson Warren Massey (Krista), granddaughter Thalina Perozo, granddaughter Wilder Horner (Leon), grandson Phillip Horner, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel on Sunday, July 16 at 4:00. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until the funeral hour. Interment will take place at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Monday, July 17 at 11:00.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Elmo Church of Christ (4713 St. Elmo Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37409).
