James was born on November 26, 1935, and lived most of his life in Chattanooga. He had a military career in the U.S. Air Force. James was active in the local theatre during the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. He owned and operator of 10K Services and worked systems engineer with CBL and an engineer specialist for IBM for many years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ruel Lee Swanson and Helen (Dejournette) Swanson; daughter, Dovie Swanson; grandson, Tracy C. Kocher; and brother, Larry Swanson.
He is survived by son, James “Jim” Lamar Swanson; his grandson, Ryan (Ellen) Swanson; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Chattanooga National Cemetery where the U.S. Air Force will perform military honors. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, at Chattanooga Funeral Home-East Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to McKamey Animal Center.
