James Edward Hoover passed away June 16, 2019 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease at age 82. Ed was born in Viola, Tennessee. Ed graduated from McMinnville Central in 1954. Ed served in the US Air Force from 1954-1958. He graduated from MTSU with a BA in Industrial Arts. In 1962 Ed moved to Chattanooga where he taught Woodshop and Mechanical drawing at Central High School. He later became head of the Industrial Arts Department. During summer vacations Ed drove for Greyhound Bus Line. Ed earned his Master’s Degree from UTC in 1976 while simultaneously running several small businesses. In 1977 he joined the District Attorney's office as a Criminal Investigator. He was appointed by Governor Lamar Alexander to the State Board of Paroles serving through 1984. Ed returned to the District Attorney's office where he was office manager until his retirement in 2016. Ed was of the Christian faith and he never met a stranger. In addition to his devotion to his family he was an avid sports fan. Ed especially loved playing tennis and snow skiing
He was preceded in death by his parents Cora Belle Hoover and Alton Hoover.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Nancy Bradford Hoover, sons David (Glynis) Hoover, Phillip Hoover (Ed Westreicher), grandson Zachary Hoover, brother, Harold (Emmajean) Hoover and sister, Alene Southard.
A Celebration of James’ Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Thursday June 20, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Min. Brandon Gilvan officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday June 19, 2019 from 4 to 8 p.m. He will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. following the service.
