He was born October 16, 1918, the son of the late Tom and Ruth Eidson of East Ridge, TN. A lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area he was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country during World War II. He was a member of Brainerd Methodist Church.
James and his wife Mary Rose Eidson were the owners of the former Eidson Restaurant located in East Ridge for 56 years. He was active in the business for 50 of those years. Previous to the establishment of Eidson Restaurant he and his wife owned and operated two other Chattanooga restaurants: The Central Cafe and Doughnut Cafe. James was inducted into the Tennessee Restaurant Association Hall of Fame in 1996.He served as a Director of the Chattanooga Restaurant Supply Corporation for several years.
James Eidson was one of the founders and served as a Director of the former Bank of East Ridge and the East Ridge City Bank.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Mary Rose Eidson, daughter Evelyn Seagle and husband Donald, son Jim Eidson, Jr. and his wife Judy, two grandchildren Kris Eidson and Alex Eidson, sister Louise Moore.
The family would like to thank James' caretakers for their kindness and excellent care.
Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home and Florist. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 5, 2011 from 11:30 a.m. -2:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. that day at Lakewood Memory Garden and Mausoleum, South, 325 Greenslake Road.
