James Frank Dorris, Jr., 94 of Chattanooga, Tenn., passed away on April 18, 2019. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (OLPH). James served our country in the United States Army. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II and was among those brave soldiers who helped liberate Dachau. James received his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the University of Chattanooga. He was owner of Esstee Manufacturing Co. James was active in his church and in his community, some of the organizations he was a member of are Serra Club, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James F. Dorris, Sr., and Mary Siener Dorris, and a brother, Albert A. Dorris, daughter, Ann Marie Dorris and his loving wife of 66 years, Charlotte Snow Dorris.
Left behind to cherish James’ memory are his children and their spouses, James F. III and Vickie Dorris, Therese D. and David Annand, William Joseph and Genevieve Dorris, Stephen Edward and Mary Jean Dorris, Richard Joseph and Suzanne Dorris, and John Peter and Bernadette Dorris, 18 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many dear friends.
A funeral mass will be held at OLPH on Tuesday April 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Mike Nolan officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Monday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Alexian Brothers Live at Home and especially, Angel Shipley for the wonderful care they gave to their father.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in James’ memory to either OLPH or to the Orange Grove Center.
