Jack was born in Chattanooga to Arthur and Della Wood. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during WWII stationed in Germany. He was a deacon and member of Ridgedale Baptist Church where he served as an usher, greeter, and Sunday School Teacher. He retired from Corley manufacturing company after 52 years of service. He loved sports and enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and loved bowling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Louise Riordan and Dorothy Lyles, brothers, W.A. Wood, Edward Wood, and Arthur R. Wood, Jr.
Left behind to cherish Jack’s memory are his loving wife of 66 years, Evadene Wood “Peggy”, daughter, Debra W. (Michael) Bird, grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin) Stuckey and Jason (Sarah) Bird, three beautiful great-grandchildren, Savannah and Jaxon Stuckey, and Emerson Bird.
A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held privately due to the pandemic. Jack will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
We respectfully request that all current mandates set forth by the CDC and the Hamilton County Health Department be adhered to. This includes “social distancing” and wearing masks at all times while on the premises.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Life Care Center of East Ridge and Hospice of Chattanooga for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Jack’s memory to Hospice of Chattanooga.
