He was the son of George F. & Mary A. Smith of Chattanooga, TN. and preceded in death by his wife Juanita A. Smith, & sisters Virginia Swafford & Lois Fincher.
He was a graduate of Central High, attended the University of Chattanooga & Emory University where he earned his dental degree. He proudly served in WWII on board the USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier in the dental department and then returned to Chattanooga and opened his practice in the James Building while living on his farm in Ringgold, GA.
He was a member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church, Half Century Club, Chattanooga Golf & Country Club, American Dental Society, Ridgedale Lodge #660, Alhambra Shrine, Red Cross of Constantine, York Rite, Scottish Rite Royal Order of Jesters, Survivors include his son Carl Smith and wife Nancy, granddaughters Lindsay & Mandy Smith; Frank Smith and wife Linda, grandson Travis Smith and wife Dia, great granddaughter, Bailey Smith; granddaughter April S Cruise & husband Steven, great grandchildren Madison & Tucker Cruise several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday January 30, 2012
Graveside services will be Tuesday 10:30 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Dr. David Harr officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital, Hospice of Chattanooga, or First-Centenary United Methodist Church.
