Gene R. Morris, 95, of East Ridge, passed away on November 21, 2024. He was born in Woodsfield, OH., in 1929 to the late James and Ethel Morris. He attended Timken Technical High School in Canton, OH.
Gene proudly served in the United States Navy from 1948 – 1952. He served during the Korean Conflict and served aboard the U.S.S. William M. Wood. He specialized in electronics which ultimately propelled him to his further career.
Professionally, Gene was employed by AT & T in management for over 33 years, retiring from the Chicago office in 1987. He and Doris moved to East Ridge, TN., in 2012. He was an amateur radio enthusiast and that passion spread to many members of the family. Gene was a member of the American Legion Post 95 in East Ridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Virginia Lee Morris, brother, Dale Morris, and a great-grandson, Derrick Brown.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 70 years, Doris Adkins Morris, his sons, Ron (Sandy) Morris and Rodney (Kim) Morris, grandchildren, Michael (Teresa) Morris, Mallorie (Joshua) Hicks, Kaitlynn (William IV) Suyak, Jason (Kathy) Kobus, great-grandchildren, Nat (Meagan) Brown; Neal Brown; Devin Gunnoe; Tia, Michael Jr., Jaxon and Tanner Morris; Billy, Bella, and Tyler Suyak; Selah, Hagan, and Conner Kobus; T.J., Mason, and Luna McConnell; Prezley Hicks, and several great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, Greg Morris; Debbie (Sam) Tewanger; and Connie (Allen) Jones, several great-nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Gene’s Life will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Wednesday November 27, 2024 at 12:00 pm. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. He will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors, by the U.S. Naval Honor Guard following the service at 1:30 pm.
