He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Roppo. Also preceding him in death are sisters-in-law Alice P Bridger and Joyce L Bridger.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Gail B Roppo of Chattanooga, TN; daughter Linda M Roppo; son Mark F Roppo; sister Mary Lou Bender; brother-in-law Sterling (fiancée Donna Smyth) Bridger; niece Kim (Joe) Kehoe; nephew Kevin (Marcie Passley) Scully; niece Angie (Steve) Hogan; nephew Brian (Kristen) Bridger; and a number of great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
After proud service in the United States Navy, he graduated from Lemoyne College in Syracuse, NY with a bachelor’s degree in industrial relations management. After graduation, he had a long career in sales and marketing for Corning, Inc. Following his retirement from Corning, he found his dream job working in golf operations for The Standard Club, in Atlanta, GA until 1997. After moving to Portland, ME, he spent 10 years volunteering for SCORE, the Service Corp of Retired Executives, consulting with and counseling individuals seeking to start small businesses. He fully retired upon relocation to Chattanooga in late 2008.
The family will receive friends 12 – 1:30 PM Monday, May 13 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, TN. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 2 PM at the National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Fred’s name to the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, or Hospice of Chattanooga.
