Eva Eulee Lawson Edwards, aged 93, passed from this life on February 5, 2024, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Born on May 25, 1930, in Cleveland, Tennessee, she was a woman of steadfast faith and enduring love.
A dedicated member of Hickory Valley Community Church, Eva lived her faith through acts of kindness and humility. She found joy in gospel music, tending her garden, and crafting beautiful creations on her sewing machine. Eva also took great pleasure in cooking for her friends and family.
Eva was a devoted educator both in her church and for countless students. She graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College and then earned her degree in education at UT Knoxville. Eva first taught school in Bradley County at Chilcutt, Big Spring, and Tasso Schools. She later taught school at Rossville Elementary and Elbert Long School in Chattanooga. In church, she taught the love and lessons of Christ in Children's Church and Sunday School.
Eva was an active civic member with participation in Sister Cities, Christian Women's Club, the Freedoms Foundation, Lookout Valley Seniors, Southern Early Childhood Association, and the Family and Community Education Club of Lookout Valley. She also volunteered for Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center.
Eva was predeceased by her cherished husband, William Louis "Ed" Edwards, with whom she shared 57 joyful years of marriage. Her parents, Loris and Jessie Lawson (née Skates), her sister Reba Auten (Art), brother Bobby Lawson (Marion), and infant twin sisters Annette and Genette also preceded her in death.
She is lovingly remembered by her family: son Frank (Tracy, and her son Nick), daughters Ellen Paige (Steve) and Carol McCullough (Ian); grandchildren Patrick (Brian), Audrey (Brad), John (Elizabeth), Max, and Claud; and great-grandchildren Colson and Oliver. She is also remembered by her brother Billy Lawson (Myrtle).
Eva's legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the love she shared. Her memory will be held in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her. Eva will be interred with her husband at the Chattanooga National Cemetery during a private family ceremony. A memorial service and visitation will be held Sunday February 25 at 2:00 pm at Hickory Valley Community Church.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that donations be made to Hickory Valley Community Church (2201 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421) or Reflection Riding (400 Garden Road, Chattanooga, TN 37419), in honor of Eva's life and her passion for her faith and the beauty of nature.
