Eloise Sutton Bates

Eloise Sutton Bates went home to be with the Lord and her family on July 28, 2019. She was 84 years old and resided in the Brainerd Area. Eloise was born in Henegar, Alabama to the late Austin and Florence Sutton. Eloise was a longtime member of Pea Ridge Baptist Church of Henegar, Alabama. She was employed with General Finance and retired with 35 years and was the first female manager. She retired at 65. Eloise always reached out to help the needy and less fortunate.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl D. Bates, and her brother-in-law, Lt. Col. Hoyt Blackburn, brothers, Lee Roy Morrison and Loyd Sutton, and sister, Naomi Tartar.

Left behind to cherish Eloise’s life are her sister, Forrestine “Tina” Blackburn, nephews, Frederick Blackburn, and James (Mary) Nunley, nieces, Linda Goins, Charlotte Tisbe, Brenda Wright, Debbie Hartline, Gina Sutton, and Cindy Spearman.

The family will always be grateful for the wonderful care she received from her caregivers, Karan Johnson, Amanda Fitzpatrick and Amber Willis, along with Hospice of Chattanooga. Also a special thank you to her two wonderful neighbors who always looked out after Eloise, Richard Jones and David Clairborne.

A Celebration of Eloise’s Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Thursday August 1, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Tim Bracken officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. She will be laid to rest with her husband in the Forest Hills Cemetery.
