Mrs. Wofford was born in Mayfield, KY to the late Rozzell “Pete” and Emma Lou Johnson and was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Charles E. “Chief” Wofford; son Gordon Wofford of Crossville; step-mother, Elizabeth Brown Johnson; brother, Charles Johnson of Chattanooga; and sister, Helen Dick of Mayfield, KY.
She was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church since 1950 where she was known as “Miss Dolly” to the hundreds of children she taught in nursery.
She was a member of Chattanooga Chimes, American Bell Association and the Order of the Eastern Star in East Ridge.
Mrs. Wofford was retired from Miller Brothers Department Store and after her retirement she and her husband Charles traveled to all 50 states, Europe and cruised through the Panama Canal.
Survivors include her daughter Charlotte (Bob) Burns of Ooltewah; grandchildren, Jeffery Burns of Doraville, GA., Pam (Billy) Abernathy of Lookout Mtn, GA., Brenda Wofford of Mufreesboro, TN. and Edward (Dyan) Wofford of Navarre, FL.; great grandson John Ross Burns; and daughter-in-law Pam Wofford of Crossville, TN
Visitation will be from 4-8 Thursday evening and 12-1 on Friday at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm Friday September 16 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
