Chris served his country in the United States Army and in the Tennessee National Guard for 9 years. Several of those years were spent as a combat medic stationed in Germany in support of Operation Desert Storm/Shield. Upon leaving the military Chris embarked upon his next journey and received his LPN licensure. Chris provided patient care at multiple hospitals throughout his career.
Chris is survived by his wife Barbara Coulter, Father Bert (Joanne) Bates, Mother Carol Bates, twin brother Michael (Penny) Bates, brother James (Peggy) Bates, sister Suzy King, nephews Daniel and Patrick Bates, niece Jessica (Josh) Raybon, and great-nephew Levi Hancock.
A graveside service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Monday, May 23, 2022 at 1:00PM with military honors. The family will receive friends at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Sunday May 22, 2022 from 2 to 4 pm.
