Charlotte Lorene Latta

Mrs. Latta was born in Atlanta, GA on August 19, 1934, and raised in Chattanooga. She attended OLPH Catholic School, Notre Dame High School (Class of 1952) and Clarke College in Dubuque, IA (Class of 1956) where she majored in biology.

She wed Dr. George H. Latta, Jr. on August 8, 1959, and they were married 55 years. Charlotte enjoyed traveling, was an avid reader, and volunteered at the Ladies of Charity Thrift Store. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Peter and Paul Basilica.

She was preceded in death by husband, George; parents, Ferdinand and Dorothy Major; and sister, Mary Cecile Major.

Surviving family members are her son, Dr. George (Teresa) Latta of Appleton, WI; her daughters, Mary (Dr. Rembert) McElhannon of Athens, GA, and Anne (John, Jr.) Durden of Bartow, GA; and grandchildren Hannah (Dr. Adam) Blatt, Jack McElhannon (fiancée, Cristina), Dr. Caroline McElhannon, Molly Durden, and John Durden, III.

A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (501 S. Moore Rd, East Ridge, Chattanooga, TN 37412) with Rev. Carter officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 3, 2023, at Chattanooga National Cemetery (1200 Bailey Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404).
