Chad Smith

After graduating from Notre Dame High School (class of 1996), Chad attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Following his father's footsteps Chad became a licensed general contractor in Tennessee. He helped build the Chattanooga HGTV Dream House in 2007. He built many more homes thereafter. His homes are known for quality master craftsmanship. His building endeavors began at the young age of 4 in his backyard sandbox. Standing tall at a height of 6'7" might have intimidated many; if you knew Chad, he was a gentle and kind soul. He met the love of his life, Marci, in their favorite place: Key West Florida on December 30, 2004. Chad was a sailor and had hand-built his own 22-foot wooden sailboat. He enjoyed hunting, rock climbing, fly fishing, and diving which took Chad on many adventures across the South. Chad constructed turkey calls, as his most passionate hobby was turkey hunting.

Chad was born to Janice Loretta (Brown) Smith and Billy Ray "B.R." Smith on December 30, 1977. He married Marci Mechling Smith on June 24, 2006 on the beaches of Jekyll Island, Georgia.

He is survived by Marci Mechling Smith (wife), Kelli Smith Schwind, (sister) and her husband David Ashley Schwind, Janice Loretta Smith (mother), B.R. Smith (father), Belinda "Gail" Hunter (stepmother), and half-sister, Dee Ann Cantrell (Hackett).

A Celebration of Chad’s Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Saturday February 6, 2021 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:00 – 2:00 pm.

The family wishes to extend our sincerest thanks to Memorial Hospital.

We respectfully request that all current mandates set forth by the CDC and the Hamilton County Health Department be adhered to. This includes “social distancing” and wearing masks at all times while on the premises.
