After graduating from Vina High School, May 16, 1939, Amy moved to Chattanooga and started working at the Provident. It was during this time she met her husband-to-be, Leonard 'Lynn' Marvin Dawson. On March 1, 1947, in their Sunday school class at First-Centenary United Methodist Church where they were life-long members, they married. After marriage she worked with her husband as receptionist at the radio station, raised two children, volunteered at the Red Cross, several hospitals and was well known for her delicious pie baking ability. Amy's husband, Lynn, worked as the Moonlight Melody Man at WAGC Radio station, a play-by-play sports announcer there and at several other radio stations, before retiring as WCVA station manager in Culpeper Virginia. After retirement they moved back to Chattanooga to be close to their family.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 46 years in 1993; her father, William Alexander Stott of Hillsboro, Alabama in 1959; her mother, Alice Ann Price Stott of Florence, Alabama in 1962; her brother, William P. Stott; her sister, Ann B. Stott and nephew Samuel B Stott all of Chattanooga.
Survivors include her daughter, Alice Dawson Everett, East Ridge, TN; her son, Leonard Marvin Dawson Jr. (Jan) Ooltewah; TN; Grandchildren, Joe Everett, Matt Everett., Alex Everett (Tammy) of East Ridge TN; Carolynn Dawson Phillips of Burgaw, North Carolina and Christopher Dawson (Jamie) of Kernersville, North Carolina; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation for the excellent care given by Becky Sullivan and the entire staff at Southern Heritage Assisted Living.
Visitation will be at the Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel, 404 South Moore Road from 2-6 pm Sunday, June 2 and from 11 am – 12 pm Sunday.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm on Monday, June 3, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Dr. David Harr of First-Centenary United Methodist Church officiating.
