Deryl, I was so sadden to find out that Slats had passed. My sincere condolences to you and family. It was always a special treat for me as a kid when our families got together at Christmas. Slats loved to hunt, fish, and being outdoors and I always felt we were kindred spirits in that respect. I have some wonderful memories of Slats, dad, and I going quail hunting together. Slats was a great man and I always loved being around him. May God bless and keep you in the coming days.

Jimmie and my dad were dear friends and I never tired of hearing about their escapades! Jimmie and I like several others shared the same birthdate and seldom did a year pass without a card. Last year he sent a Christmas card on my birthday and said he had been unable to get town for a birthday card!  What a wonderful man. All were blessed to be his friend.

Deryl, I am so saddened to hear about Slats passing. I have so many cherished memories as a young girl of at some time  during the season spending Christmas dinners with you and Slats. I know how hard it is to lose someone you have been married to for so many years as my husband (Nathan) passed away one year ago and we would have been married 52 years. Slats was  a dear childhood friend of my father; David Merl Williams.  They grew up running the Riverdale country side.  As teens and young adults they formed a club; complete with secret handshake and all. Deryl, Slats and our family were close through the years up until the late 70's.  During the late 60's Deryl and Slats went on many vacations with us and we had some fine adventures.  Get Deryl to tell you about the trip to Alaska.  The bad thing about growing up, is growing away from people that were special to you.  I saw Slats last at my Dad's funeral where he laid flowers beside him in honor of being the next to the last member of their boyhood club that had passed on.  I tired to do the same for Slats in honor of my Dad, but I just got the news today and could not find anyone that could deliver in time.  But for what its worth I wave goodbye an stand in honor of the last member of The Rache Club; may you and Dad meet up in heaven and once again run an play as young men do.

Dear Sheryl,
Sorry for your loss. Going through the pictures here solidifies the only portrait of Mr. McElroy I knew prior- what I see from you every day. A strong, happy, loving, tough, and fun loving individual shows through both his pictures and what I know of you. I know you are having a tough time. I want you to know that your UTK Law Knoxville family carries you in our hearts and minds through this all.
